Karolina Baran a.k.a. trucellent is a 4th year Digital Futures student with a passion for games and art. She’s shared a few of her illustrations with us this month.
Let me introduce you to my original character that I draw a lot – Kengen. You could call her my “comfort zone” but sometimes I push myself to create more refined pieces like this one.
I started this artwork as a regular black and white portrait study, but the more I worked on it, the more it reminded me of Karkat (character from webcomic series Homestuck) so in the end I went with his look creating semi-realistic portrait of him!
My artworks are orbiting around two themes most of the time. One of which is mentality and psyche of human mind. Here is a portrait of twins that are an embodiment of madness.
This is the first piece of two paintings I did as a surrealist interpretation of urban lifestyle and wildlife trying to coexist. This piece reimagines King Street intersection near TIFF tower.
This is the second piece of this series that reimagines another intersection in Downtown Toronto inhabited by swamp flora and fauna. I’ll let you guess what place this is.
